  1. Novell NetWare 386  / ASPI Driver (NLM) Installation
  2.  
  3. This sub directory contains three software drivers (NLMs). These
  4. drivers are for use with the IN-2000 High Performance 16 bit SCSI
  5. Host Adapter and Novell NetWare 386 versions 3.1X.
  6.  
  7. This sub directory contains the (NLMs) 
  8.  
  9.     IN2000.DSK   - an ASPI host adapter driver,
  10.  
  11.     ASPITRAN.DSK - a dummy file required by third party
  12.                    ASPI device drivers, and
  13.  
  14.     AHDASPI.DSK  - an ASPI hard disk device driver.
  15.  
  16. INTRODUCTION
  17.      
  18. These drivers are for use with Novell NetWare versions 3.1 and 3.11. 
  19. The drivers and adapter will support up to seven (7) SCSI devices on 
  20. each IN-2000 SCSI Host Adapter. A maximum of four adapters may be 
  21. installed in a system. The driver supports all System Fault Tolerant (SFT)
  22. environments including duplexing and mirroring. .
  23.  
  24. If any non NetWare Ready drives are detected, they will be
  25. installed  without  the  special NetWare Ready processing. However,
  26. once the installation has been completed, both NetWare
  27. Ready and non NetWare Ready drives may be active on the same
  28. server, at the same time.

  30. NEW INSTALLATIONS- Preliminary Steps
  31.  
  32. One or more IN-2000 SCSI Host Adapters must be installed in the
  33. 386 or 486 server prior to installation of NetWare and the Always
  34. drivers.  Please refer to the IN-2000 Installation Guide Section 2,
  35. "SCSI Host Adapter Installation" and Section 3,"SCSI Hard Disk
  36. Installation".

  38. In particular, pay close attention to the switch settings.  Only
  39. one floppy disk controller may be enabled in the system, including
  40. one, if present, on the motherboard.  
  41.  
  42. When using multiple adapters each adapter must have a different
  43. setting for I/O Port Address and Interrupt Channel.  Section 2.3
  44. details the default and optional switch settings.  
  45.  
  46. Multiple SCSI devices may be daisy chained from one IN-2000 SCSI Host
  47. Adapter.  Each device must have a different SCSI ID address setting.
  48. These addresses must be consecutive beginning at SCSI ID0.  Check
  49. Section 3 of the IN-2000 Installation Guide for instructions on
  50. changing SCSI ID's.  The ID addresses are automatically scanned from
  51. low to high.  NetWare 3.1x does not need to be re configured if a
  52. SCSI device is moved or it's address changed.  Note that address
  53. restrictions may apply to a drive with DOS partitions.

  55. NEW INSTALLATION Final Steps
  56.  
  57. The 386 NLM Sub-Directory contains IN2000.DSK, ASPITRAN.DSK, and
  58. AHDASPI.DSK, which should be copied to the directory from which the
  59.  NetWare server is loaded. This may be a DOS directory or a floppy.  The 
  60. drivers are in 'NLM' format and are activated by a LOAD command from
  61.  the server console.  Normally after the initial installation of NetWare,
  62. disk driver LOAD commands are stored in the STARTUP.NCF file to
  63. be automatically executed when the server is loaded.

  65. The first driver to be loaded is the IN2000 ASPI card driver, IN2000.DSK.
  66. The IN2000.DSK driver should only be invoked once. Do not specify a 
  67. port base address or interrupt line value when loading the driver. 
  68. The driver will automatically detect and install any properly configured
  69. IN2000 host adapter in the system.

  71. Sample load Command is LOAD \NOVEL386\IN2000
  72.  
  73. Again, the IN2000.DSK driver must be loaded only once.
  74.  
  75. It is not necessary to load the ASPITRAN.DSK because it is "autoloaded" by 
  76. the IN2000.DSK driver. The ASPITRAN.DSK is a non-functional "dummy"
  77. driver that must be loaded to support third party ASPI device drivers.

  79. Finally, if SCSI hard disk support is required, the AHDASPI.DSK hard disk
  80. device driver must be loaded.

  82. Sample load Command is LOAD \NOVEL386\AHDASPI

  84. The AHDASPI.DSK driver must be loaded only once.

  86. UPDATE EXISTING SERVERS
  87.  
  88. STEPS:
  89.  
  90.     1) "Down" the server.
  91.     2) Boot under DOS.
  92.     3) Go to the NOVELL sub-directory for the hard drive,
  93.        where the *.DSK files are located.
  94.     4) Copy all the .DSK files from the ALWAYS floppy to the
  95.        hard drive.
  96.     5) Add the following two lines to the STARTUP.NCF file in
  97.        the NOVELL sub-directory.
  98.         <PATH>LOAD IN2000
  99.         <PATH>LOAD AHDASPI
  100.     6) Reboot the server.
