- Novell NetWare 386 / ASPI Driver (NLM) Installation
-
- This sub directory contains three software drivers (NLMs). These
- drivers are for use with the IN-2000 High Performance 16 bit SCSI
- Host Adapter and Novell NetWare 386 versions 3.1X.
-
- This sub directory contains the (NLMs)
-
- IN2000.DSK - an ASPI host adapter driver,
-
- ASPITRAN.DSK - a dummy file required by third party
- ASPI device drivers, and
-
- AHDASPI.DSK - an ASPI hard disk device driver.
-
- INTRODUCTION
-
- These drivers are for use with Novell NetWare versions 3.1 and 3.11.
- The drivers and adapter will support up to seven (7) SCSI devices on
- each IN-2000 SCSI Host Adapter. A maximum of four adapters may be
- installed in a system. The driver supports all System Fault Tolerant (SFT)
- environments including duplexing and mirroring. .
-
- If any non NetWare Ready drives are detected, they will be
- installed without the special NetWare Ready processing. However,
- once the installation has been completed, both NetWare
- Ready and non NetWare Ready drives may be active on the same
- server, at the same time.
-
- NEW INSTALLATIONS- Preliminary Steps
-
- One or more IN-2000 SCSI Host Adapters must be installed in the
- 386 or 486 server prior to installation of NetWare and the Always
- drivers. Please refer to the IN-2000 Installation Guide Section 2,
- "SCSI Host Adapter Installation" and Section 3,"SCSI Hard Disk
- Installation".
-
- In particular, pay close attention to the switch settings. Only
- one floppy disk controller may be enabled in the system, including
- one, if present, on the motherboard.
-
- When using multiple adapters each adapter must have a different
- setting for I/O Port Address and Interrupt Channel. Section 2.3
- details the default and optional switch settings.
-
- Multiple SCSI devices may be daisy chained from one IN-2000 SCSI Host
- Adapter. Each device must have a different SCSI ID address setting.
- These addresses must be consecutive beginning at SCSI ID0. Check
- Section 3 of the IN-2000 Installation Guide for instructions on
- changing SCSI ID's. The ID addresses are automatically scanned from
- low to high. NetWare 3.1x does not need to be re configured if a
- SCSI device is moved or it's address changed. Note that address
- restrictions may apply to a drive with DOS partitions.
-
- NEW INSTALLATION Final Steps
-
- The 386 NLM Sub-Directory contains IN2000.DSK, ASPITRAN.DSK, and
- AHDASPI.DSK, which should be copied to the directory from which the
- NetWare server is loaded. This may be a DOS directory or a floppy. The
- drivers are in 'NLM' format and are activated by a LOAD command from
- the server console. Normally after the initial installation of NetWare,
- disk driver LOAD commands are stored in the STARTUP.NCF file to
- be automatically executed when the server is loaded.
-
- The first driver to be loaded is the IN2000 ASPI card driver, IN2000.DSK.
- The IN2000.DSK driver should only be invoked once. Do not specify a
- port base address or interrupt line value when loading the driver.
- The driver will automatically detect and install any properly configured
- IN2000 host adapter in the system.
-
- Sample load Command is LOAD \NOVEL386\IN2000
-
- Again, the IN2000.DSK driver must be loaded only once.
-
- It is not necessary to load the ASPITRAN.DSK because it is "autoloaded" by
- the IN2000.DSK driver. The ASPITRAN.DSK is a non-functional "dummy"
- driver that must be loaded to support third party ASPI device drivers.
-
- Finally, if SCSI hard disk support is required, the AHDASPI.DSK hard disk
- device driver must be loaded.
-
- Sample load Command is LOAD \NOVEL386\AHDASPI
-
- The AHDASPI.DSK driver must be loaded only once.
-
- UPDATE EXISTING SERVERS
-
- STEPS:
-
- 1) "Down" the server.
- 2) Boot under DOS.
- 3) Go to the NOVELL sub-directory for the hard drive,
- where the *.DSK files are located.
- 4) Copy all the .DSK files from the ALWAYS floppy to the
- hard drive.
- 5) Add the following two lines to the STARTUP.NCF file in
- the NOVELL sub-directory.
- <PATH>LOAD IN2000
- <PATH>LOAD AHDASPI
- 6) Reboot the server.
